Southern Utah’s Black Desert Resort to Launch Luxury Pickleball Courts and Major Sports Event in 2026

Black Desert Resort in Southern Utah is set to enhance its reputation as a premier destination for luxury hospitality, golf, and outdoor adventure. With the upcoming launch of 21 state-of-the-art pickleball courts in Spring 2026, the resort is taking a bold step to appeal to sports enthusiasts, while still offering its renowned luxury amenities and breathtaking natural landscapes. The addition of these courts aligns with Black Desert Resort’s broader goal to cater to a diverse range of visitors seeking both relaxation and recreation in a world-class setting.

The resort’s new pickleball courts will feature a Championship Court with seating for up to 1,000 spectators. This significant investment in sports infrastructure aims to elevate Southern Utah as a key destination for pickleball, a rapidly growing sport across the U.S. The courts will be seamlessly integrated into the landscape, surrounded by the region’s iconic red rock formations and lava fields. This design ensures that players and spectators can enjoy not just a competitive experience, but also the beauty of the environment.

The pickleball complex will feature advanced technology, including systems for swing and movement analysis, ball tracking, and automated in/out calls during tournaments. For those seeking a more leisurely experience, the courts will offer heated and misted cabanas and both VIP and general seating options. Whether visitors are professional athletes or casual players, the resort aims to provide a top-tier environment where everyone can enjoy the sport in comfort and style.

The expansion at Black Desert Resort also serves as a catalyst for tourism in the Greater Zion area. As the region continues to grow in popularity, Black Desert Resort is becoming a central hub for visitors. The upcoming Greater Zion Cup in 2026, in partnership with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA), will put Southern Utah on the global sports map. This prestigious event, one of only five Cup events in the Carvana PPA Tour, will attract top-level players and enthusiastic spectators, further driving the region’s appeal as a sports tourism destination.

Black Desert Resort is not just expanding its recreational offerings; it is also focused on supporting the local community and boosting the regional economy. The resort’s pickleball expansion is expected to create jobs, attract new visitors, and generate business opportunities for local vendors and service providers. By hosting a world-class event like the Greater Zion Cup, Black Desert is solidifying its commitment to the region’s economic growth, making it an even more attractive destination for both tourists and investors.

Black Desert Resort is already known for its luxurious accommodations, including 447 rooms and suites, a range of dining venues, and an impressive 15,000-square-foot spa. The resort’s Tom Weiskopf-designed championship golf course is a centerpiece, hosting both PGA and LPGA Tour events. Black Desert Resort’s integration with the surrounding natural beauty of Greater Zion, which features striking black lava beds and vivid sandstone cliffs, provides a one-of-a-kind backdrop for visitors seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure. Future phases of development promise additional amenities, such as more pickleball courts, a water park, and expanded dining and entertainment options.

Greater Zion, located in the southwest corner of Utah, offers a wealth of opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Zion National Park, known as the second most visited national park in the U.S., draws millions of visitors each year. The area is also home to multiple state parks, world-class golf courses, mountain biking trails, and off-roading terrain. The growing sports tourism scene, highlighted by events such as the Red Bull Rampage and PGA tournaments, adds to the region’s appeal. Local towns, including St. George, Springdale, and Ivins, provide a variety of lodging, dining, and outdoor activity options that make Greater Zion a must-visit destination for tourists.

With the expansion of its pickleball courts, Black Desert Resort is setting new standards for luxury and sports tourism in Southern Utah. By blending world-class amenities, breathtaking natural landscapes, and high-level sports events, the resort is positioning itself as a key player in the growing tourism sector. This development will attract tourists from around the world, contributing to the region’s ongoing growth as a sought-after destination for both relaxation and adventure.
