The fascination of the animal as both subject and inspiration has inspired a new exhibition at Mosman Art Gallery for spring 2016. Presented in tandem with celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of Sydney?s Taronga Zoo, WildThing considers the relationship between humans and animals and nature, and understanding of the species. Social and ethical issues are explored through the work of twenty-five leading Australian artists. Animals are constructed, painted, etched, filmed and photographed, set in hybrid worlds. Humour, pathos, melancholy and beauty all on display. WildThing taps into imaginations and fears as it seeks to open contemporary dialogue on human relationships with domestic creatures; attitudes of the wild and untamed and to concerns of species loss and ecological degradation. The exhibition features the work of: Lisa Adams, Daniel Boyd, Joanna Braithwaite, Penny Byrne, Simon Cuthbert, Hayden Fowler, Peter Gardiner, Rew Hanks, Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro, Petrina Hicks, Deborah Kelly, Sam Leach, Joseph McGlennon, Noel McKenna, Danie Mellor, Rose Montebello, David Noonan, Ben Quilty, Michael Riley, Kate Rohde, Heather B. Swann, Beverley Veasey, Louise Weaver and Gerry Wedd. WILDTHING is supported by a public program of artist talks and workshops. Entry is Free.
